Journaling is not an
easy or natural thing for many people to do. I find this to be no
exception in my own life. But I understand the value of being able to
look back and see what God has done, and to see how God has answered
prayers along the way. If it weren't for having written these things
down, many of us would forget. Even though the discipline of journaling
is difficult, I have found a way to remember and to celebrate what God
has done and what I have learned in my life. That's what songwriting is
to me. That is why I write. It makes me respond to God in praise. That
is why I sing.
Matt's Journey:
After graduating from Oklahoma State University in 2000, Matt began to
search for the next steps that God had planned for his life. For so many
years, his passion was basketball and OSU. And combining the two made
for the time of his life. What he discovered, however, was that nothing
(including basketball) can give him the lasting fulfillment that every
person longs for. The material things and accomplishments are only
temporary. But we are all made to worship, and Matt began to understand
that God had something in store for his life that would not only be
fulfilling, but would bring glory to Jesus Christ. As Matt began to lead
worship for small collegiate groups at OSU and a local youth group,
opportunities started opening up for him to lead in other places.
After moving to Nashville, TN a couple of years later, Matt started to
write some of his own music. Wanting to
share what God was teaching him, and taking from his own experiences, several songs began to take shape.
Ignite was released in 2007, containing 5 original songs of
worship, that allow Matt to share his faith and his testimony. The title
track is a simple prayer that God would ignite a passion in our hearts
to know Him more, and to make Him known among the nations. In 2010, Matt
plans to release his 2nd CD, For Your Glory.
